3/27/12

I'm sorry it's been so long since I wrote about my dad! He's actually been doing really well! His relationship with Mary is positive and he no longer wants to marry her but content with just being in a relationship. Mary has been such a positive influence on my father and her happiness and great energy has kept him out of depression. She always massages his hands and legs, bringing blood flow to areas that need healing! I still talk to him daily but it's been hard to see him with my busy travel schedule and working on my house with my husband. Currently we're looking for things for him to do to keep him busy i.e. ham radio, reading, playing his harmonica, etc. but with having him do some of these hobby's always comes a price and we're very low on funds! It's just another lesson for him to learn how to be creative with the money he has and he's starting to learn how to do this. I know I talked about his VA application last post! I finally completed and mailed it out about a month ago and of course recently they just mailed me back 10 more pages to fill out. Oh how I love doing this type of stuff.

Ron's still at Villa Redondo and has the same phone number. Please call him if you'd like to talk to him or visit! Thank you for your support and love! We both appreciate it!

11/1/11

Never a dull day in our life... dad's insisting on getting married to an 85 year-old woman that lives in his assisted living facility after only knowing her for about a month now.

A week after meeting Mary, dad has proposed to her and looking to get married ASAP! I have repeatedly advised him that I think he is moving way too fast and to just date her for a little while. I also don't know what marriage will do to all of his financial benefits; social security, Medi-Cal and VA application process.

Just to give you some background on Mary, she is very nice and is only in the assisted living facility because her husband died a year ago and her son does not want her to live alone. She has a lot of energy, is a very positive influence on dad and loves motivating him to get out of bed and go to exercise in the morning or just get out of his room!

With that said, she is also behind getting married quickly and I'm not too sure why. I feel like I have to error on the side of caution because a couple of months ago my dad was talking about getting married to one of the young Filipino care takers at Villa Redondo, which she was in on it too. When the facility found out what was going on they suspended her and later fired her because of a law in California that protects the elderly from being taken advantage of emotionally or financially by care takers. The State ended up getting involved in the case and it was a HUGE mess and I wasn't sure what the true intentions of the care taker were. It was a strange situation and as much as I like Mary, I keep telling them to just date for awhile. There's no need to rush into anything right now. But he doesn't seem to listen to me and I've even gone as far as saying that I will not have anything to do with him if he does marry Mary. So we'll see what happens.

To his family: next time you call, please talk some sense into him. He's been so difficult to talk to and I'm beyond frustrated with him.

Thanks!

10/20/11

Dad had a wonderful visit with his brother Ken and wonderful wife Patti on Sunday and Monday! Just look at the smile on his face (in the picture to the left)!

Dad just got a new girlfriend! Her name is Mary and she lives around the corner from dad at the Assisted Living facility. She's very upbeat and is helping to keep my dad's spirits high. He is still very depressed and not willing to accept the fact that his physical state is now permanent.

Dad really appreciates postcards from his friends and family. I've been mailing him postcards from every trip that I go on and he gets so excited to receive them. When get home from my trip I show him all the pictures and that will usually makes his day.

If you're able to mail him a postcard, please send it to the following address:

Tuesday, after Ken and Patti's visit, dad had another seizure. Dads doctor is not sure why he keeps having seizures but we think it might have to do with his high blood pressure. I asked my dad what happened and he doesn't remember where or when it happened. He only remembers waking up at the hospital. Which worries me that he was unconscious for so long. Please keep my dad in your thoughts and prayers.

Xoxo,
Megan

Dad's been working with a Physical Therapist and she pretty much told me that my dad will not be getting back feeling and/or motion on his left side. He's been very depressed so I'm trying to get him interested in a hobby or something social. Please call him and get his mood up! His cell phone number is 949-514-5105. Sometimes he's not able to get to his phone right away but if you keep calling him, he'll be able to find his phone and chat!

Dad's had a rough couple of weeks. He was in the hospital for over a week for his seizure and ran numerous tests on him to figure out what caused the seizure. The test, MPI, cat scan were inconclusive but dad thinks it was due to his high-blood pleasure.

We moved him to a nursing home so he can get physical and occupation therapy. His Dr. said he wouldn't stay there long because he wants to move him back to Villa Redondo.

Dad has his cell phone again. Below is his new facility that he's at.

8/21/11

Last night around 5:30PM (Mountain Time) I received a shocking call from Villa Redondo that my dad had a seizure or mini stroke and had been rushed to St. Mary's Medical Center.

I talked to him last night and this morning and he sounds ok; just confused about what happened and why does this keep happening to him. The hospital is running an MRI and Cat Scan on him right now to see why he seized or had a mini stroke. I was pretty shocked to hear the news because he has been doing so well.

A huge thanks to my amazing husband, Dave, for helping me out last night and continuing to call the hospital for updates, since I'm in Denver for work right now. THANK YOU BABE!

7/22/11 - Dad's moving on up!

Ron no longer needs the medical attention of a nursing home and as of yesterday has moved into an assisted living facility. His new home is Villa Redondo in Long Beach. It's 2 blocks from the ocean, so I'm hoping to take him on walks and get him back to feeling like his old self. Villa Redondo has a lot more active residences and they have more off property activities that will hopefully get him out of his depression. He still has his mental health but physically is still the same; paralyzed on his left side and in a wheel chair.

Here is his new home:

Dad still has his cell phone 949-514-5105 and loves to receive calls. Thank you for calling him and helping him in this time of need.
